Emery Delbert New Holy “Wakin Cula”, 68, of Oglala, S.D., passed away March 30, 2017, in Rapid City.
Emery Delbert New Holy was born on July 16, 1948, in Pine Ridge, to Aloysius New Holy and Martha (Good Voice Flute) New Holy. Emery made his journey to the Spirit World on March 30, 2017 in Rapid City.
Emery is survived by his daughters, Emerald (Jim) New Holy, Juliet (Sonni) White Eagle and Jade (Corey) New Holy, all of Oglala; sons, Darren (Carmelita) New Holy, Damien New Holy and Delbert New Holy, all of Oglala; sisters, Shirley (Sandy) Iron Road, Mandan, ND and Veronica (Richard) Jones, Linden, Tenn.; aunts, Pearl Bearing, Rapid City, and Lucille Bores A Hole and Evelyn New Holy, both of Oglala; and 18 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Emery was preceded in death by his parents, Aloysius and Martha (Good Voice Flute) New Holy; brothers, Lyle “Tommy” New Holy and Michael “Big Mike” New Holy; paternal grandparents, Joseph Sr., and Julie (Kills At Lodge) New Holy; and maternal grandparents, Guy Sr., and Alice (Little Soldier) Good Voice Flute.
A one night wake service will begin at 1:00 p.m., Friday, April 7, at the Oglala Re-Creation Center in Oglala.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 8, at the Oglala Re-Creation Center in Oglala, with Sr. Connie Schmidt officiating and Mr. Cornell Conroy, Sr. performing the traditional Lakoat service.
Burial services will be at Our Lady of Good Counsel Cemetery in Oglala.
