Loyola Joseph “Joe” Janis, Sr., 79, of Kyle, S.D., passed away March 26, 2017
He was a veteran of the US Army.
Joseph Loyola “Joe” Janis was born on February 26, 1938, in Pine Ridge, to Ellen Lorene (Rouse) Janis and Edward Janis, Sr. Joe made his journey to the Spirit World on March 26, 2017 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City.
Joe is survived by his sons, Gregory (Becky) Janis, Sr., Craig (Jodi) Janis, Sr., and Loyola “Lil Joe” (Donnetta) Janis, Jr., all of Kyle; brothers, Albert (Ruby Clifford) Janis, Kyle, and Tommy (Josephine) Janis, Kan.; sister, Jeannie (Terri) Ashley, Rapid City; daughter-in-law, Josie Janis, Kyle; nephew, Richard (Marlene) Janis, Jr., Martin, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Janis, Sr. and Ellen (Rouse) Janis; wife, Myrnette Fern (Apple) Janis; brothers, Edward, Jr., Harry, Otto, Richard “Bud” Janis, Robert “Robbie” Janis, James “Jim” Janis and Albert Xavier Janis; sisters, Edna, Theresa, Aurea and Dorothy Janis; son, Ronald Janis; and grandsons, Ryan Janis and Anthony Janis.
A two night wake service started at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, March 30, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church Hall in Kyle.
Funeral services began at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 1, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church Hall in Kyle, with Father Rick Abert, S.J. officiating and Mr. George Apple performing the traditional Lakota service.
Burial services were held at the St. Stephen’s Catholic Cemetery in Kyle.
