Mia Rose Tail “Wicahpi Luta Win” (Red Star Woman), 16, of Manderson, S.D., passed away April 5, 2017, in Manderson.
Mia Rose Tail was born on December 11, 2000, in Denver, Colo. to Robert Raymond Tail and Vanessa Cody Swallow. Mia made her journey to the Spirit World on April 5, 2017 near her home in Manderson.
Mia is survived by mother, Vanessa (Alfred) Swallow, Porcupine; father, Robert Tail, Manderson; sisters, Cody Tail and Mia’s twin sister, Mara Tail both of Manderson, Zintkala Ska Alexis Swallow, Porcupine; brothers, Eeon Swallow and Alfred Swallow, Jr. both of Porcupine, and AJ Rowland, Manderson; special friend, Allen Mesteth, Manderson; hunka mother, Rosie Lipp, Manderson; maternal grandparents, David and Nyla (Helper) Swallow, Porcupine, Donna Helper and family, Red Shirt Table, Bridget Helper and family, Denver, Colo., Leo Swallow and family, Fort Collins, Timothy Swallow and family, Boston, Mass., Victor Two Crow and family, Kyle, and Marvin Helper, Coffeeville, Kan.; paternal grandparents, Donna Tail, Manderson, Austin Healy, Hayes, Mont.; great-grandmothers, Mildred “Paper Doll” Alkire, Rita White Plume, Alta White Plume, Ramona White Plume, Alex White Plume, Carlos Romero, Sr., Roxanna Garibaldi, Juanita Shoptease, Antonia White Plume, and Jerry Weasel all of Manderson, Carla and Carlene Crazy Thunder of Burley, Idaho, and Eli Tail, Porcupine,; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Mia was preceded in death by her grandparents, Andre Johnson, Tawapaha Luta White Butterfly, Marlin White Plume, Jared White Plume, Wyoma White Plume; great-grandparents, Everette Poor Thunder, and Noah Helper; great-great-grandparents, Dorothy Afraid of Hawk, Mary Mexican, Charlie Mexican, Douglas White, Evelyn Poor Thunder, Viola Center, Annie Chief Eagle, Judson Two Crow, Vellance and Percy White Plume, Sr., and Blutch Woman Dress; uncles, Iziah Helper and Michael Helper; and aunts, Asia Rose Two Crow and Deziree Martinez.
A two night wake service, with the first night at 12:30 p.m., was held Tuesday, April 11, at the Porcupine School in Porcupine, the second night started at 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 12, at the Henry Weasel Tiospaye in Manderson.
Funeral services: will be held at the Henry Weasel Tiospaye in Manderson, with Mr. Gerald Ice and Mr. George Jumping Eagle performing the traditional Lakota service.
Burial services will be at the Henry Weasel Tiospaye in Manderson.
