Louise Long Soldier, 83, of Oglala, S.D., passed away May 7, 2017, in Rapid City.
Louise Long Soldier was born on March 24, 1934, in Oglala, to John and Edna Alice (Loafer Joe) Blacksmith. Louise made her journey to the Spirit World on May 7, 2017 at the Hospice of the Hills in Rapid City.
Louise is survived by her daughters, Fedelia (Robert) Cross, Marian Poor Bear, InaMae Sounding Side and Priscilla Long Soldier; son, Nolan (Daisy) Warrior; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, spiritual acquaintances, friends, and relatives.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents, John and Edna Blacksmith; sons, Allen Long Soldier, Leon Long Soldier, Elton Long Soldier, and Clayton Warrior; daughter, Verlene Long Soldier; nephews, Peter Blacksmith, Jr., Robert Blacksmith, Al Blacksmith, and Verdell White Bear Claws; nieces, Eldean Blacksmith, Lorna Blacksmith, Dorothy White Magpie, Rosalyn White Magpie, and Jessie American Bear; grandchildren, Allen Long Soldier, Jr., Alvin Iron Cloud III, Brent Sounding Side, Shelly Sounding Side, and Enzo Blacksmith-Looks Twice; brothers, Max, Peter, Sr., Kenneth, Tom, Leo, Franklin, and Wilbur Blacksmith; and sisters, Rose Blacksmith-White Magpie and Elizabeth Blacksmith-Walks Out.
A one night wake service started at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 11, at the Brother Rene Hall in Oglala, with evening services at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral services began at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 12, at the Brother Rene Hall in Oglala, with Sister Barb Bogenschutz officiating and Mr. Marvin Helper performing the traditional Lakota service.
Burial services were held at St. Peter’s Cemetery, Lakeside Road in Oglala.
