Shirley Madeline McCue, 86 of Spearfish, S.D. went to be with the Lord and Savior on May 29, 2017. She passed away peacefully at her home, with her children by her side.
Shirley was born on December 1, 1930, to William and Agnes (Ducey) Pike at Norris, the oldest of five children.
She grew up in and around Martin, working at her father’s bakery throughout her youth. She graduated from Bennett County High School in 1948 and attended Chadron State College for a year.
Shirley married Clyde McCue at Martin on October 10, 1950. They had six children, Michala, Angela, Agnes Helen, Clayton, Loren and Mark.

Clyde eventually joined the South Dakota Highway Patrol and the family moved to several posts throughout the state, at Sturgis, DeSmet, Deadwood and back to Martin, enjoying their “first” retirement in 1981.
Shirley was a Teacher’s Aide at Martin Grade School for many years and they ran McQ Enterprises, a fishing, hunting and video store, before moving to Pierre. Shirley was a Welcome Wagon host in Pierre and loved greeting new people to the community. In 2001, they settled for good in Spearfish, managing Orchard Creek Cottages, and greeting visitors to the Black Hills from all over the world until 2005.
Shirley loved keeping in touch with old friends, classmates and family. She and Clyde were ardent birthday callers, always looking forward to the opportunity to make a call and even sing happy birthday to them over the phone. Shirley was a long time member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
