Gerald Wayne “Jump” Big Crow “Wakinyan Hotu Canku”, 70, of Pine Ridge, S.D., passed away June 24, 2017, in Rapid City.
Gerald Wayne “Jump” Big Crow was born on April 4, 1947, in Pine Ridge, to James Big Crow and Marcella Mills. Gerald made his journey to the Spirit World on June 24, 2017 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City.
Gerald is survived by his spouse, Jackie (Hat-O’Rourke) Big Crow, Pine Ridge; hunka mother, Eleanor Charging Crow, Wanblee; sons, John Big Crow and William (Betty) Big Crow, both of Pine Ridge; brothers, Robert Big Crow, Bridgeport, Neb., James, Tim, Ray, and Duane Big Crow, all of Pine Ridge, and Ben Big Crow, Porcupine; hunka brother, Lionel Bordeaux, Rosebud; sisters, Geraldine Merchant, Lusk, Wyo., Joyce Brewer, Pine Ridge, Elizabeth Little, Oglala, Ruth Pourier, Rita Big Crow, and Ollie Big Crow, all of Pine Ridge, Diane Painte, N.D., Bessie Dreamer, Pine Ridge, Erma Big Crow, Rapid City, and Brenda Zimiga, Pine Ridge; and grandchildren, Genriel Ribitsch, Arianna Big Crow, Trevor Big Crow, Breohnna Big Crow and DJ Big Crow.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, James Big Crow and Marcella Mills; brother, Walt Big Crow; sister, Theresa Big Crow-Black Bull; and sons, Waylon Big Crow and DJ Big Crow.
A one night wake service started at 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 28, at the Pine Ridge High School Gym in Pine Ridge, with Rosary services at 7:00 p.m..
Funeral services began at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 29, at the Pine Ridge High School Gym in Pine Ridge, with Father Peter Klink, S.J. and Mr. Charles McGaa officiating.
Burial services were held at the St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery in Pine Ridge.
