Mary Elizabeth Warrior, 86, of Oglala, S.D., passed away June 29, 2017, in Rapid City.
Mary Elizabeth Warrior was born on September 25, 1930, in Pine Ridge, to Joseph Allen Ground Spider and Elizabeth Iron Heart. Mary made her journey to the Spirit World on June 29, 2017, at the Hospice of the Hills in Rapid City.
Mary is survived by her children, Sylvia Warrior, Julie Warrior, Gloria Warrior, Ida Warrior, and Violet Ten Fingers all of Oglala, Feanette Black Bear, Jeryl Black Bear, Beryl Black Bear, Darlene Black Bear, Louella Black Bear, and Darla Black Bear all of Washington State, Christine Blacksmith, Cyril Warrior, and Myron Warrior all of Oglala, Everette Black Bear, Darrel Blue Bird, and Herbert Black Bear, Jr. all of Washington State, Michelle Holland, Sioux Falls, and Natalie Ferneau, Nebm; sisters, Grace Red Bear, Pine Ridge, and JaVonna Kills Enemy, Canada; hunka sister Cecelia Martin, Porcupine; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and Relatives.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Ground Spider and Elizabeth Iron Heart; and siblings, Rena Ground Spider, Pauline Ground Spider, Vincent Ground Spider, and Joseph Ground Spider.
A two night wake service started at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 5, at the Brother Rene Hall in Oglala.
Funeral services began at 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 7, at the Brother Rene Hall in Oglala, with Pastor Elton Yellow Boy and Reverend Pedro Sharpfish officiating. Mr. Keith Looking Horse performed the traditional Lakota service.
Burial services were held at the St. John’s Episcopal Cemetery in Oglala.
