Dawn Lynn Janis, 48, of Sioux Falls, S.D., passed away June 30, 2017, in Sioux Falls.
Dawn Lynn Janis was born on July 25, 1968, in San Jose, Calif. to Gene Fresquez and Arlene Janis. Dawn made her journey to the Spirit World on June 30, 2017 at her home in Sioux Falls.
Dawn is survived by her father, Gene Fresquez, Denver, Colo.; hunka father, Earl Tall and Jackie White Hawk both, White Horse Creek; son, Cody Janis, White Horse Creek; daughters, Arlena Janis and Mary Ellen Janis both of Sioux Falls, and Emilyanne (Rachel Dawn) Wittkop, Azusa, Calif.; brothers, Chris “Israel” Janis-Tall, Wahanchka Tall, and Leslie Yankton all of Manderson; sisters, Heather Janis, Pine Ridge, Earlene Janis, Amber Tall, Stephanie Tall and Jessica Tall all of White Horse Creek, Sharon Black Eyes, Lincoln, Neb. and Amanda (John) Eder, Sioux Falls; and grandchildren, Derek Louis Janis, Asher Janis, Harmony Plaisted, Hailee Plaisted, Keagan Shaffer, Beverly Black Eyes, and Ayden Janis.
Dawn was preceded in death by her mother, Arlene Janis; brothers, Earl Sean Tall, Hermis Janis (Tall) and Thomas “Hoksila” Black Eyes; sister, Yvette Janis; uncle Herman “George” Tall; and grandparents, Hermis Janis-Tall and Rachel Crow-Janis.
A one night wake service started at 5:00 p.m., Friday, July 7, at the Tall Residence, White Horse Creek, Manderson.
Funeral services began at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, July 8, at the Tall Residence, White Horse Creek, Manderson, with Senior Catechist Ben Conquering Bear officiating and Mr. Floyd Running Hawk performing the traditional Lakota service.
Cremation followed the services.
