Louis “Butch” William Young, Sr., 74, of Mission, S.D., passed away October 5, 2017, in Rosebud.
He was a veteran of the US Marines.
Louis William Young, Sr. was born on February 21, 1943 in Pine Ridge, to Louis Clayton Young and Eva Yellow Horse. Louis passed away on October 5, 2017, at the Rosebud I.H.S. Hospital in Rosebud.
Louis is survived by his daughter, Darlene (Kidd) Young, Mission; step-daughter, Elfreda Cottier, Manderson; brother, Donroy Ghost, Pine Ridge; sister, Loretta Bettelyoun-Young, Pine Ridge; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Louis was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Eva (Yellow Horse) Young; his grandparents whom raised him, Johna dn Anne (Reshaw) Lone Dog; wife, Lena Young; son, Louis “Boy” Young, Jr.; brother, Lorreal Young; sisters, Ruthann Young and Darlene Ghost.
A two night wake was held with the first night at 3:00 p.m., Monday, October 9, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pine Ridge, with Rosary services at 7:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church, second night starting at 3:00 p.m., CT, Tuesday, October 10, at the St. Thomas Catholic Church in Mission, with Rosary services at 7:00 p.m., CT at St. Thomas Catholic Church.
Funeral services began at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 11, at the St. Thomas Catholic Church in Mission, with Father Jacob Boddicker, S.J. and Mr. Charles McGaa officiating and Mr. Ed Harrison performing the traditional Lakota service.
Burial services were held at the St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery in Mission, and Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cemetery in Pine Ridge.
