Jaylene Dawn Pretends Eagle, 34, of Wanblee, S.D., passed away November 4, 2017, near Porcupine.
Jaylene “JJ” Pretends Eagle-Red Elk was born on May 5, 1983, to Phyllis Wilcox and Howard Pretends Eagle Sr. in Pine Ridge.
She is survived by her children Jeriah Jason, Buddy Lee, Heath Tim, Hoksila Luta and Darian Jay.
She is also survived by her mother Phyllis Wilcox, Wanblee, and father Howard Pretends Eagle Sr., Mobridge, her brothers and sisters, Colin (Connie) Wilcox, Wanblee, Celeste Pretends Eagle, Wanblee, Howard (Becky) Pretends Eagle Jr., Wanblee, Heath Pretends Eagle, Winnipeg, Canada, Corrina (Charles) Peneaux, Wanblee, and Valene (Anthony) Pretends Eagle, Wanblee, and her numerous aunts and uncles of the Pretends Eagle and Wilcox families.
Lastly she is survived by her maternal grandmother who she loved very dearly Julia Wilcox.
She was preceded in death by her husband Waylon Red Elk Sr., son Waylon Red Elk Jr., gestation baby girl, her maternal grandfather Floyd S. Wilcox. Her paternal grandparents Ollie Breast-Pretends Eagle and Bernard Pretends Eagle of Ft. Yates.
A two night wake service started at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 11, at the Crazy Horse School in Wanblee, with Episcopal Mass at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, November 12, at the School Gym in Wanblee.
Funeral services began at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 13, at the Crazy Horse School in Wanblee, with Father Ed Hunt officiating.
Burial services were held at the Gethsemane Episcopal Cemetery in Wanblee.
