Niko Barnett Johnson “Wambli Ho Tanka”, 20, of Custer, S.D., passed away November 12, 2017, in Custer.
Niko Barnett Johnson was born on November 2, 1997, in Gillette, Wyo. to Debbie L. Bates and David W. Johnson. Niko made his journey to the Spirit World on November 12, 2017, at his home in Custer.
Niko is survived by his mother, Debbie Bates, Custer; father, David W. Johnson, Bismarck, N.D.; sisters, Alisha Garneaux and LaRae Bargmann both of Custer; and Erica Garneaux, Whitewood; nephew, Jarred McNulty, Whitewood; grandparents, Ethel Bates, Custer, and Russell and Leah Johnson, Gillette; fiancé, Ann Roxas of the Philippines; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Niko was preceded in death by his grandfather, John Scott Bates, Sr.; and great grandparents, Nila and Joe Svara.
A memorial service began at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 17, in the Community Meeting Room in the Custer County Courthouse Annex, with President Keith Glover and Pastor Van Arp officiating.
Burial services will be held at a later date.
