Trivean Verdella (Crow) Blacksmith “Oyate Wawokiasa Win” (Woman Who Helps the People), 81, of Oglala, S.D., passed away November 26, 2017, in Rapid City.
Trivean Verdella (Crow) Blacksmith was born on January 29, 1936, in Grass Creek, to Samuel and Jessie (Scabby Face) Crow. Trivean made her journey to the Spirit World on November 26, 2017, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City.
Trivean is survived by her children, Teresa Blacksmith, Pine Ridge, Cheryle Blacksmith, Oglala, Ronald Blacksmith, Fort Pierre, Linwood Blacksmith, Thornton, Colo., and Corwin Blacksmith, Oglala; special grandsons, Sammy Jo Blacksmith and Quinn Kills Small; hunka daughter, Sunny Rae Ten Fingers, Oglala, SD; 24 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Trivean was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Jessie (Scabby Face) Crow; spouse, Aloysius Blacksmith; brother, Dale Crow; sisters, Carleen Crow, Roberta White, and Patricia Cordova; son, Richard Good Weasel; and great-grandchildren, Furious Peyton Rylie Blacksmith and Holton Wayne Blacksmith.
A two night wake service started at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, December 2, at the Brother Rene Hall in Oglala, with Rosary Services at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, December 2, at the Brother Rene Hall and wake services at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, December 3, also at Brother Rene Hall.
Catholic Mass began at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, December 3, at Our Lady of the Sioux Catholic Church in Oglala.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 4, at the Brother Rene Hall in Oglala, with Fr. Joe Daoust, S.J. and Sister Connie Schmdit officiating and Mr. Benedict Good Buffalo performing the traditional Lakota service.
Burial services were held at the St. Mark’s Episcopal Cemetery in Rockyford.
