Matthew James Bear Eagle, 59, of Wounded Knee, S.D., passed away January 14, 2018, in Sioux Falls.
Matthew James Bear Eagle was born on February 5, 1958, in Pine Ridge, to Solomon Bear Eagle and Carolyn High Pine. Matthew made his journey to the Spirit World on January 14, 2018, at the Sanford Ava’s Hospice House in Sioux Falls.
Matthew is survived by his daughter, Constance Bear Eagle; stepchildren, Tommy Lucero, Phyllis Lucero, and Albert Lucero; siblings, Steven Bear Eagle, Jackson Iron Horse, Beverly Larson, Elmer Bear Eagle, Arlo Looking Cloud, Carolyn One Feather, Eloise One Feather, Clara McManus, Julie Shot to Pieces, and Von Bear Eagle.
Matthew was preceded in death by his parents, Solomon Bear Eagle and Carolyn High Pine; spouse, Lorraine Fast Horse; son, Timmy Bear Eagle; and siblings, Vina Richards and Darrell Bear Eagle.
A two night wake service started at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, January 20, at the Church of God in Wounded Knee, with services each night at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral services began at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 22, at the Church of God in Wounded Knee, with Pastor Stanley Hollow Horn officiating. Mr. Gerald Ice performed the traditional Lakota service.
Burial services were held at the Johnson Memorial Presbyterian Cemetery, Wounded Knee.
