Our local rodeo contestants didn’t have the week they had hoped for in Gillette, Wyo. at the National High School Rodeo Finals, but they gave it their all and represented us well.
Tate Petrak earned a trip to the national finals after a 4th place finish at state in tie down roping.
In his first performance in Gillette on Monday morning, his calf ran through his loop and he caught a hind leg causing him a slow time of 24.08, this left him 14th in the performance.
Tate’s second run was a smooth 18.15 and gave him the tenth seat in the performance.
Carson Good had a long two weeks as he traveled from Shawnee, Okla., after the International Finals Youth Rodeo, to Gillette to compete in the steer wrestling.
In his first performance he had a no time but came back hot in his second go on Thursday night, and won the performance with a 4.49.
Mary Risse went back to Nationals for a second year in a row, trying to beat her previous years achievement of 6th in goat tying.
Mary’s first performance was Monday night, and she tied an 8.13, putting her 5th in the performance.
In Mary’s second go at the goats she had a tough run of luck as she tripped but still tied herself to third in the performance with an 8.7.
Mary went into the short-go in the 15th spot. She went for broke and tied a high 6 but drew a kickin’ goat and ended up with a no time. She finished 20th overall.
