Boys pick up first win dropping Wall 60-51

By Tim Huether

The Bennett County boys high school basketball team picked up their first win of the season with a 60-51 victory over Wall Saturday in Martin.

No stats were available by press time for that game.

On Friday night, the Warriors hosted Winner and looked good early, leading most of the first quarter, then settling for a tie at eight heading to the second quarter.

A three pointer by Tate Risse and a field goal by DeAndre Cotter put Bennett County up 13-8 to start the second quarter. Then the wheels fell off and Winner took advantage of several Warriors turnovers and cold shooting by the hosts, and put together a 13-0 run, finishing the half up 27-16.

Bennett County continued to be cold from the field and watched Winner rattle off nine unanswered points to start the third period and suddenly, it was a 36-16 Winner advantage.

Bennett County could muster just six third quarter points and Winner had a commanding lead heading to the final quarter, up 44-22.

Bennett County was just 4 of 11 from the free throw line in the fourth, adding to their shooting woes and fell 56-28.

Bennett Co. scoring: DeAndre Cottier 9, Tristan Whirlwind Horse 8, Tate Risse 5, Charles Cottier 3, Jeremy Dubray 2, Jacoby Heathershaw 1.

Winner won the JV contest 46-22 with Jacoby Heathershaw and Tommy Flye each tossing in 6 points to lead the Bennett County offense. Charles Cottier added 5, Mahpeya Rihards 3 and Nick Dubray 2.

Bennett County will be competing in the Jones County Invitational basketball tournament Thursday in Murdo, facing White River in the first game of the day with tipoff set for 12 noon MT.
