The Bennett County Board of Equalization met in regular session Tuesday, April 9, 2019, in the Commissioner’s meeting room.

The meeting was called to order at 10:30 a.m. by Chairman Wayne Bond.

Commissioners present: Wayne Bond, Rod Kirk, and Judd Schomp.

Absent: Jeff Slattery and Rolf Kraft.

Others present: Susan Williams, Auditor; and Jeff Siscoe, Director or Equalization.

Member Oath

Oaths of Office were signed by the Board.

Assessment records

The Board of Equalization reviewed the 2019 assessments.

Productivity Values

Director of Equalization, Jeff Siscoe, discussed the productivity values from the Department of Revenue. They also discussed the sales ratios for Bennett County from the Department of Revenue.

Tribal Land

Mr. Siscoe also informed the Commissioners that 2,076 acres of tribal land had been put into deeded land. 

Exempt Property

The Board reviewed the County tax exempt property. Judd Schomp made a motion to accept the Bennett County tax exempt property. Rod Kirk seconded.

All voted aye. Motion carried.

A list of exempt property is filed in the Auditor’s office.

Disabled Veterans and Elderly Freeze

Director of Equalization Jeff Siscoe reported on the Disabled Veterans tax exemptions and the Elderly Freeze exemptions.

Performance Evaluation

Mr. Siscoe informed the Board they are required to do a performance evaluation on his office. The Board commended Mr. Siscoe on a job well done and thanked him for his work.

Full-Time Assessor

Mr. Siscoe recommended to the Board that the County may need a full-time assessor. At this time Mr. Siscoe is part-time Director of Equalization and part-time Emergency and Disaster Manager. Mr. Siscoe explained the Emergency and Disaster Manager position is becoming more involved and time consuming. There was discussion concerning hiring a deputy Director of Equalization. There was no decision made.


There being no further business to come before the Board of Equalization, Rod Kirk made a motion to adjourn with a second by Judd Schomp.

All voted aye. Motion carried.
