A petition has been submitted with the required number of signatures that will require a vote recount for the Bennett County Opt Out. Enough signatures were submitted from all five precincts so a Recount Board, comprised of local Attorney Amanda LaCroix as the head, and two others, will recount the votes on Monday, June 25, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Bennett County Courthouse.
Seventh Circuit Judge Matthew M. Brown is in charge of the recount issue.
The vote count in the June 5 election was 251 in favor of the Opt Out and 250 against.
The County Commissioners requested the Opt Out in the amount of $300,000 per year, starting in calendar year 2018, payable in 2019, and is in effect for five years. The board argued that they will be unable to operate under the tax limitation measure currently in statute.
The recount procedure is open to the public.
