Legion Auxiliary installs news officers

The American Legion Auxiliary held their monthly meeting on Wednesday May 8, 2013, at 7:30 p.m. following a free will offering supper.

Reports were given on membership and Poppy Day which will be held on Monday, May 20, with the Junior Auxiliary selling poppies to the public. They will meet at the Frosted Petal at 9 a.m.

Regina Whipple installed the new officers for the coming term of 2013/2014. They are: Paulette Fanning, President; Belinda Ready, 1st Vice President; Vernie Arnold, 2nd Vice President; Marlene Nollett, Secretary; Kathleen Kocourek, Treasurer; Joan Spears, Chaplain; Betty Cook, Sargent of Arms; Shirley Rice, Historian; and Executive Committee of Garnet Audiss, Marva Hicks and Janet Speidel.

Plans were made for the annual free will offering Memorial Day luncheon that will be held on Monday, May 27, at the new American Legion Hall, after the Memorial Day Service at the Martin Community Cemetery.

Delegates and alternates were chosen to represent Unit 240 at the State American Legion Auxiliary Convention held in Rapid City June 7-9. It was noted that Jan Goetzinger would be honored on Saturday night, June 8, at the Past President’s Parley Dinner.

May 21 has been the work day set to get the crosses ready to put on the deceased members graves for Memorial Day. This will be held in the basement of the Episcopal Church starting at 9 a.m.

A farewell get together for Regina and Verle Whipple is planned for July 6, starting at 6 p.m. at the new Legion. 

The next meeting will be held June 12, 2013, at 7:30 p.m., with a free will offering supper at 6:30 p.m. The Auxiliary will not be meeting in July and August.
