JayCee Boomer crowned 2019 Little Miss Oglala Nation

By Marj Frew

She’s the queen, her horse, Repo, is the king, but her Grandpa Scott is still the boss, according to JayCee Boomer.

On Saturday, August 3, JayCee was crowned Little Miss Oglala Nation at the 34th Annual Oglala Lakota Nation Wacipi Rodeo Fair  at the Pow Wow Grounds in Pine Ridge.

JayCee is the daughter of Summer Boomer, of Interior. She will be entering the fourth grade at Martin Grade School this fall. Sadly, her horse doesn’t get to go to school with her. Not even for show and tell.

Miss Boomer participated in horsemanship, impromptu horsemanship questions, interviews, and photogenics in the annual contest.

JayCee’s favorite part of earning the queen title was that Repo,  a sorrel quarter horse, got to participate in a new event. His new event was the reining patterns category.

As queen, JayCee and Repo will get to be in SDRA rodeos. She is not old enough to carry a flag yet, but the duo will ride in the grand entries. Repo didn’t get a crown, but he did get a pat and told he was a good horse. I’m sure that’s all the reward he needs.

JayCee is responsible for the work of taking care of Repo. She also dreams of being a barrel racer.

Other 2019 Miss Oglala Nation Rodeo Royalty include: Miss Oglala Nation Rodeo, Rachel Two Bulls-Grooms; and Junior Miss Oglala Nation Rodeo, Summer Romero.
