Carson Knecht spends two weeks touring Europe with South Dakota Ambassadors of Music

By Marj Frew

Carson Knecht, a 2019 Bennett County High School graduate, spent 16 days touring Europe with the South Dakota Ambassadors of Music, from June 27 to July 12. More than 200 high school students from across South Dakota comprised the group, both choir and band musicians. The Ambassadors make the tour every two years.

Preparation for Europe

Carson was nominated for the tour by his music teacher, Arielle Tiensvold, during his junior year of high school. “She really has opened so many opportunities up for me throughout my high school career. Without her help, I would not be nearly as happy or successful as I am now.”

After practicing with the other local South Dakota musicians in Rapid City, Carson and his mom, Cindy Knecht, were on their way to Europe. The tour included the countries of England, France, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Austria, Italy, and Germany.

Music and Culture

According to Carson, “It was an unforgettable, action-packed tour of some of the most beautiful places in the world. I’d recommend this tour group to any student dedicated to music and culture, ESPECIALLY someone from a small town like Martin. With the right attitude, there is never a dull moment with the friends you gather and the places you discover. It was an excellent learning experience that I’ll always cherish.”
