New school building plans presented to board, public at special meeting

By Tim Huether

The new Bennett County School building addition moved one step further along as the school board heard from architect Tim Cheever of Upper Deck Architects, Inc., Monday, Jan. 6, in a public meeting. Cheever presented the updated building plans explaining what has been updated and where they are at in the process, leading up to the next phase, letting the bids.

“The purpose of the meeting is for Tim from Upper Deck, who we have been working with, to do a presentation as to pretty much the finality of where we’ve gotten with the project, with a few changes here and there,” said Superintendent Stacy Halverson. “I felt it was important for the board and the community to see that because if we want to move forward with the project, we most likely need to do that at our next board meeting on Jan. 20.”

“We’re planning on hopefully releasing the project for formal bidding before the end of the month,” said Cheever. “We did a design development set of drawings that we gave to the construction manager and they did an estimate and presented it around Christmas, where they are at on cost...and that is just an estimate. We looked at some alternate bids just to give us some breathing room, and we’re looking at alternate systems to maybe bring those costs down.”
