Shots fired within City limits, Incident under investigation

Martin Police Department Chief of Police Brandon Petersen reported that on Saturday, December 28, 2019, at approximately 5:33 p.m., Martin Police Officers were dispatched to a shots fired call at the intersection of 3rd Avenue and School Street in Martin.

Martin Police Officers responded and began investigating. The scene turned up bullet hole(s) and other items of interest. Martin Police Chief Brandon Petersen authorized the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety (OST DPS) to have full police powers of detainment in the City of Martin for this incident in question.

At approximately 7:55 p.m., law enforcement was dispatched to a second shots fired call near the intersection of 5th Avenue and Main Street in Martin. At approximately 9:16 p.m., law enforcement was dispatched to a third shots fired call near the intersection of 5th Avenue and Main Street for a residence that was shot at.

The Martin City Police Department, with the assistance of OST DPS, detained and later arrested an individual in the vicinity of the shots fired call. No one was injured from the incident in question. The incident regarding the shots being fired within the city of Martin is still under investigation by multiple law enforcement agencies at this time.
