School Board votes to let bids on new building project

By Tim Huether

The key topic for the Jan. 20 regular meeting of the Bennett County School District Board was the new building project at the high school.

Superintendent Stacy Halverson informed the board they had met with the architect and CMAR on the new building project, and after discussions with them, said they believe now is a good time to let the bids for the project. She said it looks like there will be at least four bids on each component of the project.

There will be a base bid which will include the main building, the fitness center, the commons area, the band and music room and upgrades to the high school. There will also be several alternate bids, such as a heating upgrade, the parking lot to the east of the new facility, EVR in locker rooms and temperature controls.

Board member Josh Fanning, who is on the building committee, said they are confident they can keep the building under budget and said it is his recommendation they move forward and advertise for bids on the project.

The board then moved to advertise for bids on the BCHS gym/fitness building project, with all voting in favor.

Halverson said there will be a pre-bid meeting for any contractors or anyone who has any questions about the project Feb. 20, and a tentative bid opening date of March 5.
