Lone Willow Chapter NSDAR Awards Youth Citizenship Medals

By Martha Riggs

Each year, Lone Willow Chapter awards Youth Citizenship medals to a boy or girl in grades five through eleven in area schools who has demonstrated the qualities of Honor, Service, Leadership and Patriotism in his or her classroom. One medal per grade, per school, is given in accredited and non-accredited schools. The medal may also be awarded to youth service and patriotic organizations such as scouts, police cadets and other community service organizations.

Students who fit the above criteria are nominated by their teacher to receive this award. This is a wonderful way to recognize a deserving student in classrooms and community.

Each student and their family will be invited to attend the chapter Guest Day Tea in April, where each will be presented a DAR Youth Citizenship medal and certificate.

The award-winners are as follows: Fifth grade: Paxton Simmons, Gordon-Rushville Elementary; Kate Robinson, Martin Elementary; Naomi Busenitz, Cody-Kilgore Elementary.

Sixth grade: Jaxon Kearns, Gordon-Rushville Middle; Kayleigh Ravenscroft, Cody-Kilgore.

Seventh grade: Ayden Naslund, Cody-Kilgore; Austin Child, Gordon-Rushville Middle.

Eighth grade: Jacob Kiever, Gordon-Rushville Middle.

Ninth grade: Ellen McDonnell, Bennett County; Hadleigh Hoos, Gordon-Rushville.

Tenth grade: Grace Jager, Bennett County.

Eleventh grade: Thea Dubray, Bennett County; Rebekah Fillmore, Gordon-Rushville.

Congratulations to all of these outstanding students!
