Connie Louise (Wilcox) Fast Horse was born July 10, 1952, in Kadoka, S.D. Connie passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 9, 2020, in Phoenix, Ariz., at the age of 67 with her family by her side.

She was the first child of Frances Jeannette (Sears) and Howard Joseph “Skee” Wilcox Jr. and was an enrolled member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe. Throughout her life, Connie had held many various positions including, Office Manager at Summit, Inc., Owner of Native American Construction Co., Logistics Support Analyst at Rockwell International, GE Medical Prototype Planner of materials and Logistics Support at SCI-Samina, and Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of the Oglala Sioux Tribe. While attending college, Connie worked and raised her three sons who remember her as a kind and gentle old soul who encouraged them to pursue their goals, love, and happiness no matter what.

Connie loved to express herself artistically, one passion of hers was writing poetry about her dreams, visions, and experiences. Connie also enjoyed making Halloween costumes, animal-shaped blankets, and quilting with her sisters and would often share memories of their time together. Connie had a deep love for her family and held great pride in their many accomplishments. Many who knew Connie, have fond memories of marathon conversations over coffee; she could have a genuine interest in the conversation no matter what the topic and would listen without judgment. She was a strong woman who could pull a calf in the middle of the night, yet still be able to cook a complete meal for a large family without a second thought or complaint. Connie had taken in family members throughout the years without a second thought when they needed a home. She was a grandma to all her nieces and nephews and was the keeper of the peace in her family, never taking sides, but uplifting everyone and reminding the importance of family.
