With the recent snow dumping on Bennett County and shutting down school for another day, the Bennett County School Board was informed Monday night at the regular meeting the two snow makeup days are set for March 26 and April 30.
Superintendent Stacy Halverson said overall enrollment is up 13 students, all at the Elementary.
She updated the board on open positions for next year, including: High School Art, with or without Spanish; High School Special Education; 6-12 Band/Vocal; Elementary teacher; head football coach; Little Warriors boys basketball; Middle School volleyball.
COVID vaccinations are now available for school staff.
Halverson said there are just 40 days of school left, remarking, “it has gone fast.”
She said the legislature is done and they agreed on a 2.4 percent increase for education staff.
Middle School Principal and Athletic Director Jon Pierson said they are in a slow time now. Third quarter grades are out and 23 students had straight As, 59 students made the A honor roll and 27 students made the B honor roll.
They are doing Smarter Balanced testing next week to offset with the high school.
Track practice for middle school and high school begins March 16 and club baseball starts March 16. Golf begins in two weeks.
High School Principal Nick Redden reported that Smarter Balanced testing has a slight adjustment because of the weather issue and NCRC testing will be rescheduled.
The Man Pageant originally set for March 15 has been moved to Thursday, March 18 with a 6 p.m. dinner and the pageant at 7.
Board member Josh Fanning asked if they were still planning prom and Superintendent Halverson said yes, with mitigation procedures in place. Prom is April 17.
Jed Liedtke of Puetz Const. updated the board on the new building project. All the liner panel is in the gym and they have started with rough-ins. A lot of the main heating duct is up, all the steel for the basketball hoops are installed and the main runs for the fire sprinkler are done. The painter will be here this week and he’ll start working on some block fill and he’ll be back next week to really start. They have 500 gallons of paint on site. Much more is in progress and they are moving right along.

The board moved to surplus the following:

The board moved to approve the following voluntary transfers within the district for the 2021-2022 school year:
- Jill Bolzer, transfer to PK-5 music from 5-12 music
- Samantha Hicks, transfer to Middle School from Elementary
- Jamie Schomp, transfer to Middle School from Elementary
- Gary Alexander, transfer to High School from Middle School
The board moved to approve contracts for the 2020-2021 year for the following:
- Gary Alexander, Assistant Track Coach, $2,390.00
- Tee Allen, Middle School Track Coach, $1,750.00
The board moved to approve contracts for the 2021-2022 school year:
- Carleen Simpson, Social Worker
- Joseph Mazour, PE/Health
- Taylor Risse, Elementary Instructor

The board moved to declare the stadium wall an emergency repair.
According to Josh Fanning, the stadium wall by the track is pulling away and they are having some water problems. He said they can’t wait on fixing this issue, and the board agreed and will get on it.

There was a motion to have a special board meeting on Wednesday, March 17.
