Bennett County Fair underway

The Bennett County Fair is on target for August 8th through the 12th. According to 4-H Advisor Beth Lyon, one highlight of this year’s fair will be Thursday’s Open Range for Archery. The event is open for everyone, even if you haven’t tried archery yet. Here’s your chance to brag about that bull’s eye!
Lyon is also encouraging entrants for Open Class categories, not only in the traditional areas, but also rabbits and poultry.
The fair also features many fine dining traditions. The 4-H concession stand at the fairgrounds will be open on Thursday and Friday.
Start the day right with breakfast at the Martin Volunteer Fire Department on Friday. Early risers will find pancakes waiting for them at the Fire Hall from 6 a.m. until 9 a.m.
The ladies of the Bennett/Shannon Homemakers will be featuring their delicious homemade pies at their Pie and Ice Cream Social from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday.
Saturday night’s fare features a free Community Barbecue at the Fair Building from 5 to 7 p.m.
Burn those calories off by dancing to the music of Country Rush, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Along with viewing the many exhibits at the fair building, fairgoers may also participate in Saturday’s Fun Run, starting with registration at 6 a.m. in the City Park.
Find a place to park your lawn chair on Main Street for the Parade which starts at noon. All entrants are welcome to line up behind the courthouse prior to the parade.
Topping it all off, the rodeo will be in full swing on Saturday and Sunday at the fairgrounds arena.
Get your chores done early, polish up your boots and head to town for the Bennett County Fair!
