Jerry Walker, 54, passed away at home December 5, 2012. Jerry was born December 8, 1957, to Mark and Ila Mae (Reier) Walker in Martin, S.D. He graduated from Bennett County High School in 1977 and the University of South Dakota at Springfield in 1979 with a degree in heating and refrigeration. He did heating and air conditioning work at Hogen’s Hardware in Kadoka for several years until he established Jerry’s Heating and Cooling in Martin. Jerry purchased the Stoner Ranch south of Vetal in 1995 that he farmed and ranched until his death. He also worked at Martin Livestock. Jerry’s greatest enjoyment was socializing, and hunting and fishing with the many friends he gained over the years.
Survivors include his father, Mark Walker, Tuthill; brothers Jim Walker, Eagle River, Alaska, Joe Walker, Tuthill; sister Lori Walker, Overbrook, Kansas; nephews Mark Guptill, Burlington, Kansas, Matt Guptill, Dayton, Wyo., and great niece and nephews Chloe Guptill and Grant Guptill, Burlington, Kansas, and Kipten Guptill and Bentley Guptill, Dayton, Wyo. He is preceded in death by his Mother Ila Mae Walker.
Services were held December 11, 2012, at Martin. A memorial has been established in Jerry’s name to benefit the Vetal Fire Department. Arrangements were entrusted in Bennett County Funeral Service.
