Violet Young Bear-Demarices “Ho’ Was’te Wiŋ”, 71, of Rapid City, S.D., passed away October 6, 2017, in Rapid City.
Violet Young Bear-Demarices was born on July 22, 1946, at home near Batesland, to Benjamin Henry Young Bear and Helen (Lefthand) Young Bear. Violet passed away on October 6, 2017, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City.
Violet is survived by her sons, Gilbert Hunts Horses, McLaughlin, and Will Young Bear, Rapid City; daughters, Aderianna Young Bear-Black Calf and Glenda Hunts Horses both of Rapid City; hunka sons, Delwin Fiddler, Jr., Philadelphia, PA and Fred Grinnell, Rapid City; hunka daughters, Thunder Hawk, Porcupine, and Jeanne Ballanger, Ore.; hunka brother, Stephen McClune, Heron Lake, Minn.; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Violet was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Helen (Lefthand) Young Bear; husband, Eugene Hunts Horses; son, Marty Hunts Horses; brothers, Lawrence Young Bear and Garfield Young Bear; and sister, Clementine Young Bear-Peone.
A one night wake service started at 3:00 p.m., Friday, October 13, at the Porcupine Elderly Meals Building in Porcupine.
Funeral services began at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 14, at the Elderly Meals Building in Porcupine, with Pastor Elton Yellow Boy officiating and Mr. Keith Horse Looking performing the traditional Lakota service.
Burial services were held at the St. Alban’s Episcopal Cemetery in Porcupine.
