Duane James Brewer, Sr., 70, of Pine Ridge, S.D., passed away October 24, 2017, in Rapid City.
He was a veteran of the US Army.
Duane James Brewer, Sr. was born on February 10, 1947 in Pine Ridge, to David Brewer, Sr. and Barbara (O’Rourke) Brewer. Duane passed away on October 24, 2017, at the Black Hills Surgical Hospital in Rapid City.
Duane, Sr. is survived by his wife, Irene (Means) Brewer; children, Duane Brewer, Jr., Lenora “Tunee” Brewer, Timothy Brewer, Sean Means, Alice Hunter, Joy Lynn Parton, Mandy Means and Don Means; brothers, Dean Brewer, Dennis Brewer, Richard Brewer and Frank “Popo” Means; sister, Doris Giago; grandkids, Tiesha Pourier, Nathaniel Pourier, Danielle Brewer, Angie Brewer and Steven Brewer; great-grandkids, Nate’A Pourier, Daya Pourier, Jazzie Brewer, Jayla Hummingbird, Layla Hummingbird, and Jalaniya Brewer; and aunts, Leona “Leat” Stabler and Sylvia Nelson.
Duane, Sr. was preceded in death by his parents, David Brewer, Sr. and Barbara Brewer; father-in-law and mother-in-law, John H. Means and Lenora Wilcox; brothers and sisters, David Brewer, Jr., Colleen Brewer, Delmar Brewer, and Judith Clifford; brother-in-law, John Means; and grandson, Mark “Duane” Brewer.
A one night wake service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 1, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pine Ridge, with rosary services starting at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, November 2, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pine Ridge, with Father Peter Klink, S.J. and Father Edmund Yainao, S.J. officiating. Mr. Joe Swift Bird will perform the traditional Lakota services.
Burial services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, November 2, at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
