Victoria Elizabeth Makes Him First “Tokahe Win”, 82, of Oglala, S.D., passed away December 27, 2017, in Rapid City.
Victoria Elizabeth Makes Him First was born on June 27, 1935, to Lucille T. Running Hawk and Jimpson Dearly in Pine Ridge. Elizabeth passed away on December 27, 2017, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City.
Elizabeth is survived by her brother, Jerry Dearly, St. Paul, Minn.; sister, Catherine Looking Elk, Oglala; children, William Makes Him First, Sr., Oglala, Ira Makes Him First, Jr., San Rafael, Calif., Maria Makes Him First and Phillip Yellow Hawk, both of Oglala; numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, Jimpson Dearly and Lucille Running Hawk; husband, Ira C. Makes Him First, Sr.; grandparents, George H. Dearly and Virginia (Eagle Horse) Dearly, Charles Running Hawk, Sr. and Elsie (Brave) Running Hawk, and Jesse Lefthand; great granddaughter, Baylee Elizabeth Makes Him First; and cousin, Charles “Cisco” Running Hawk, Jr.
A two night wake service started at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, January 4, at the Brother Rene Hall in Oglala.
Rosary services will begin at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 4, at the Brother Rene Hall in Oglala.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 6, at the Brother Rene Hall in Oglala, with Fr. Joe Daoust, S.J. and Sr. Barb Bogenschutz officiating and Mr. Mike Little Boy performing the traditional Lakota service.
Burial services will be held at the Our Lady of the Sioux Catholic Cemetery, Oglala.
