Sara Elizabeth Forney “Ohiya San Win”, 83, of Oglala, S.D., passed away February 27, 2018, in Rapid City.
Sara Elizabeth Forney was born on September 20, 1934, in the Drywood Community near Oglala, to Talton Hawk and Jenny (Hat) Hawk. Sara made her journey to the Spirit World on February 27, 2018, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City.
Sara is survived by her spouse, Darold Forney, Oglala; children, Thomas (Louella) Patton, Sr. and Donald Patton both of Oglala, Sandra (Scott) Mabin, Oglala, Eldon (Alva) Forney, Wounded Knee, Cheryl (Dave) Forney, Mitzi (Coy) Big Crow, and Paul (Missy) Forney all of Oglala; hunka son, Greg Kokolous (Rosemary), Penn.; siblings, Lambert (Mary Lou) Hawk, Pine Ridge, and Steve (Pru) Hawk, Sr., Oglala; adopted brothers, Frank Marshall, Pine Ridge, and Vincent Ten Fingers, Chadron, Neb.; grandchildren, Shauna Patton-Neuman, Boyden, Iowa, Thomas Patton, Jr., Gering, Melissa Alford, Lincoln, Joshua Williams, Nathaniel Simpson and Eric Mabin all of Oglala, Ashley Forney, Rapid City, Bradley Forney, Wounded Knee, Ryan Forney, Fargo, N.D. Michael Wright and Tyler Wright both of Rapid City, Derek Youngman, Oglala, Samantha Youngman, Rapid City, Shaina Forney, River Forney, Amorita “Rosie” Cross and Rosie Cross all of Oglala, and Wakinyan Forney, Phoenix, Ariz.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.
Sara was preceded in death by her parents, Talton and Jenny (Hat) Hawk; siblings, Joe Hawk, Phoebe He Crow, Phoebe Thunder Horse, and Tillie White; and children, Owen Patton, Jr., Christian Patton, and Troy Dean Mabin.
A two night wake service started at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 3, at the Brother Rene Hall in Oglala, with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m., Saturday evening at Brother Rene Hall.
Funeral services began at 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 5, at the Brother Rene Hall in Oglala, with Father Joe Daoust, S.J. and Sister Barb Bogenschutz.
Burial services were held at the Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Cemetery, Oglala.
