Abraham Leroy Tobacco “Wanbli Wicasa”, 68, of Pine Ridge, S.D., passed away April 25, 2018, in Custer.
Abraham Leroy Tobacco was born on May 31, 1949, at home in Calico, to Rudolph Tobacco and Iva Black Elk. Abraham made his journey to the Spirit World on April 25, 2018, at the Custer Regional Care Center in Custer.
Abraham is survived by his children, Amber (Larry) Lame, Matthew (Alycia) Tobacco, DaJuanna (Rocky) Bissonette, and Bobette (Jamie) Stead all of Pine Ridge, Gloria Tobacco, Rosebud, Hattie Tobacco, Kyle, and Deidree Blacksmith, Sioux Falls; hunka daughters, Rhonda Akers, Tessie Chase In Sight, Anna White Bull, Shanna Brown, Rosemary Horn, and Shawnee Steele all of Pine Ridge, SD; siblings, Lillian Tobacco, Esther Black Elk, Goldie Tobacco all of #4 Community, Lisa Jo Mason, Gillette, Wyo., Phyllis Tobacco, Oglala; hunka sisters, Genevieve Ribitsch, #4 Community and Susan Hudspeth, Pine Ridge; hunka mothers, Cecelia Martin, Eleanor Charging Crow, Lydia Haas, Nellie Buckman, Pearl Dixon, Emma Waters, and Bertha Brave Heart.
Abraham was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph Tobacco and Iva Black Elk; daughter, Iris Tobacco; brothers, Gary Tobacco, Ole Tobacco, and Antoine Tobacco; sisters, Eva Tobacco and Ethel Tobacco; grandson, Nicholas Bissonette; uncle, Wilson Black Elk; hunka moms, Elizabeth Around Him, Cecelia Martin, Lydia Haas and Pearl Dixon.
A two night wake service started at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 2, at the Billy Mills Hall in Pine Ridge.
Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 4, at the Billy Mills Hall in Pine Ridge, with Apostle Keith Rich, Apostle Wendell Ghost Bear, Apostle Pedro Sharpfish, Elder Emerson Little Elk, Mr. Wade Ghost Bear officiating.
Burial services will be held at the Payaba Cemetery, #4 Community.
