Steven Eugene Slow Bear “Wanbli WaahTuwan”, 59, of Oglala, S.D., passed away April 21, 2018, in Rapid City.
Steven Eugene Slow Bear was born on April 29, 1958, to Roland Sow Bear and Mercy Red Ear Horse in Pine Ridge. Steven made his journey to the Spirit World on April 21, 2018, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City.
Steven is survived by his aunts, Fleta Two Bulls and family, Christine Lajtay and family, and Vestana Red Ear Horse and family; nephew, Mareno Eder and family; and cousins, AlJoe Lajtay, Naomi Yellow Horse and family, Annie Mills and family, Wendy Backs, Teton and Muriel Lakota, Vance Blacksmith, Fast Wolf Family, Running Shield Family, Colhoff Family and Slow Bear Family.
Steven was preceded in death by his parents, Roland Slow Bear and Mercy Red Ear Horse; brother, Alvin Slow Bear; grandparents, Felix Slow Bear and Mary Door, Steven Red Ear Horse, and Max and Hazel Blacksmith; cousins, Jolene Fast Wolf, Eugene Fast Wolf and Nason Backs, Jr.; niece, Annie Chief Eagle; aunts, Melvina Backs and Lorna Blacksmith; and uncle, Al Blacksmith.
A one night wake service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 2, at the Brother Rene Hall in Oglala.
Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 3, at the Brother Rene Hall in Oglala, with Sister Barb officiating and Mr. Ivis Long Visitor performing the traditional Lakota service.
Burial services will be held at the Lakeside Community Cemetery, near Oglala.
