Raelee Dawn Martinez, 18, was born on February 4, 2000, in Pine Ridge, S.D. Raelee attended school at Rockyford School, Pine Ridge High School, and Marty Indian School. Raelee loved to play guitar, draw, and shoot archery. Raelee also participated in Hand Games, Knowledge Bowl, and was also part of the 500 Mile Sacred Hoop Run for ten years. Raelee was very talented in everything she did and loved spending time with her grandparents, Molbay Sr. and Mary Martinez. Raelee passed away on May 2, 2018, in Marty, S.D.
Raelee is survived by her mother, Freda Martinez, Kyle; Ate’, Jesse White Face, Kyle; siblings, Thomas White Elk, Jacob White Face, Jessie White Face, and Morgan Janis, all of Kyle; hunka mother, Sharon Martinez, Kyle; hunka father, Conan Janis, Kyle; hunka siblings, Santana Janis, Antwain Janis, Savannah Janis, Chamiqua Janis, Aly Martinez, and Margo Martinez, all of Kyle; special auntie, Marilu Martinez, Kyle; grandparents, Dennis Sr. (Audrey) Martinez, Oglala; Molbay Sr. and Mary Martinez, Joyce and Didier DuPont-Little Whiteman, Lorna and Marvin Apple, all of Kyle.
Raelee was preceded in death by her great grandfather, Raymond Martinez.
A two night wake service will start at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 10, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church Hall in Kyle.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 12, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church Hall in Kyle, with Rev. Cordelia Red Owl officiating. Traditional Lakota Services will be performed by Mr. Rick Grey Grass.
Burial will be at St. Mary Magdalene’s Catholic Cemetery, Rockyford.
