Wilson Charles Gay, Jr. “Wahinkpe Ska”, 69, of Kyle, S.D., passed away August 29, 2018, in Sioux Falls.
Wilson was a veteran of the US Army.
Wilson Charles Gay, Jr., “Wahinkpe Ska” was born on May 18, 1949, at home in Kyle, to Wilson, Sr. and Gladys (Thunder Hawk) Gay. Wilson made his journey to the Spirit World on August 29, 2018, at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls.
Wilson is survived by his wife, Evelyn Gay, Kyle; mother, Gladys Gay, Kyle; daughter, Anita Gay, Kyle, siblings, Agnes Gay, Iris Gay, Anthony Gay, and Mary Ann Gay all of Kyle, and Deborah Gay-Islam, Pasadena, Calif.; grandchildren, Frankee Rose Means, Frank Louis Means II, Scott White Eyes, and Laila Soap; aunts, Bernadette Thunder Hawk, Vincentia Thunder Hawk, and Genevieve Richard all of Porcupine; uncle, Francis “Chubbs” Thunder Hawk, Porcupine, and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Wilson was preceded in death by his father, Wilson Gay, Sr.; and grandparents, William and Nancy (Cloud Horse) Gay and Charles and Susan (Jealous of Him) Thunder Hawk.
A two night wake service was held with the first night at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 5, at the Elderly Meals Building in Porcupine, and the second night wake service started at 9:00 a.m., Thursday, September 6, at the Father Pauly Hall in Porcupine, with services at 7:00 p.m. each night of the wake.
Funeral services began at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 7, at the Father Pauly Hall in Porcupine, with Father Edmund Yainao, S.J. and Mr. Bill White officiating. Mr. Francis “Chubbs” Thunder Hawk performed the traditional Lakota service.
Burial services were held at the Christ the King Catholic Cemetery, Porcupine.
