Young, MacKayla

MacKayla McKenzie Young, 1, of Rapid City, S.D., passed away October 8, 2018, in Sioux Falls.

MacKayla McKenzie Young was born on June 26, 2017, in Rapid City, to Brittany Romey and Michael Dillon. MacKayla made her journey to the Spirit World on October 8, 2018, in Rapid City.

MacKayla is survived by her mother, Brittany Romey, Rapid City; father, Michael Dillon, Jr., Otway, Ohio; siblings, Jada Medicine Blanket, Benjamin Medicine Blanket, and Lakota Medicine Blanket all of Eagle Butte, and Katryna Young, Rapid City; hunka siblings; Reigns Provost, Angelica Provost, Serenity Provost, and Charles Dodd, Jr.; aunts, Paige Young, Otway, Anita Hayes and Jeanette Johnson, both of Pine Ridge, LuAnn Swallow and Alicia Comes From War, both of Rapid City; uncles, Charles Dillon, Redfield, Alan Brown, Sr., Pine Ridge, Sequoyia Scout, Denver, Colo., and Roman Dillon, Todd Dillon, and Peyton Dillon all of Valentine, Neb.; and grandparents, Ludine Thomas and John Thomas, III both of Otway, Mike Dillon, Sr., Valentine, Lonnie Swallow and Marilyn Martin, both of Red Shirt Table.

MacKayla was preceded in death by her grandparents, Leon and Evangeline Living Outside, Madeline Living Outside, great-grandparents, Owen Young, Sr. and Wilma Witt; great-great-grandparents, Myra Edna Brown and Carol Jean Ten Fingers; great-uncle, Martin Ten Fingers; great-aunt, Jerilyn Martin; aunt, Connie Brown; and uncle, Bud Swallow.

Wake services began at 12:00 p.m., Monday, October 15, at the Woyatan Lutheran Church in Rapid City, with evening services at 7:00 p.m. at the church.

Funeral services began at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 16, at the Woyatan Lutheran Church in Rapid City, with Pastor Henrique Fleming and Ms. Joyce Tibbitts officiating. Mr. Pete Fills the Pipe performed the traditional Lakota services.

Burial services were held at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 16, at the Pine Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Rapid City.
