John Bissonette “Cante Waste’ Wica’ku,” 57, of Rapid City, S.D. passed away on November 19, 2018 at Sturgis. He was a veteran of the United States Airforce.
John Bissonette was born on June 8, 1961 in Pine Ridge to Jackson V. Bissonette and Sylvia (Stabber) Bissonette. John made his journey to the Spirit World on November 19, 2018 at the Fort Meade VA Hospital in Sturgis.
John is survived by his children, John S. Bissonette, Rochester, N.Y., Mary A. Bissonette, Saratoga Springs, Utah, Raymond J. Bissonette, New York City, and Emma L. Bissonette, Shanghai, China; siblings, Patty Bissonette, Rapid City, Mike Bissonette, Murfreesboro, Tenn., James Bissonette, Red Lake, Minn., Genevieve Bissonette, Rapid City, and Janelle Doughty, Lincoln, Neb.; and numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Jackson and Sylvia Bissonette; and siblings, Jackson M. Bissonette, Clement M. Bissonette, Donald J. Bissonette, and Stephen E. Bissonette.
A one night wake service started at 4:00 p.m., Friday, November 23 at the Woyatan Lutheran Church in Rapid City with evening services starting at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral Services started at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 24, at the Woyatan Lutheran Church in Rapid City.
Officiating was Pastor Elton Yellow Boy.
Traditional Lakota Services were officiated by Chief Leonard Crow Dog with assistance by Nephew Merle Left Hand Bull with the Wambli Ska Drum Group.
Burial Services were held 12:00 p.m., Monday, November 26, at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis.
