Long, Ramona

Ramona Beatrice Long was born on August 17, 1929 in Rapid City, S.D. to Henry Janis, Sr. and Lucy Celia Catches. Ramona made her journey to the Spirit World on February 19, 2019 at the Oglala Sioux Lakota Nursing Home near Rushville, Neb.

Ramona is survived by her children, Linn Cross Dog, Sr., Marilyn Cross Dog-Deer, Ivan Long, Lois Long, Beverly Long-Weston, David Long, Samuel Long, Helsondus “Missy” Long and Tony Long; grandchildren, Linn Cross Dog, Jr.; Linnetta, Mona and Sue Cross Dog; Yvette, Nikki, Milton and Rory Deer, Jr.; Justin Lydell; David and Ron Mousseau, Jr.; John, Louis and Lindsey Long; Troy Weston, Jr.; Sadie, Loni, Beverly and Ramsey Long; William, Vincent, Britney and Mitch Long, Jr.; Aaron, Alexis, Carol, and Ariana Long; Jamie Brewer; Stewart and Chelsea Long; Samantha, Robyn, Sky, Rico, Manuela, Stormy, Stone, Arrow, Puma, Bella, UV, CeCe, Junior and Jade Long; Rossy and Calen Long; Bridgette, Stephen, Eva, and Clarenda Catches; Day Butch; and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and great-great-great grandchildren. 

Ramona was preceded in death by her husband, David Long; parents, Henry Janis, Sr., and Lucy Celia Catches; brothers, Bernard, Eugene and Vincent Catches; sisters, Vienna Bad Milk and Theresa Little Moon; sons, Milton Cross Dog and Mitch Long; daughters, Genevieve Long and Baby Esther Long; and grandchildren, Hannah Long, Sioux Dawn Mousseau, Paige Ivy Deer and Matthew John Mousseau.

Two night wake services  started at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, February 28 at the Brother Rene Hall in Oglala with prayer services starting at 7:00 p.m. each night.

Funeral Services were held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 2, 2019 at the Brother Rene Hall.

Officiating were Mr. Charles McGaa and Sister Barb.

Traditional Lakota Services were officiated by Mr. Peta Catches. 

Burial Services were held at Holy Rosary Catholic Mission Cemetery, Pine Ridge.
