Donovan Louis Yankton, Sr. “Oki Le Mani,” 52, of Porcupine, S.D. passed away on February 28, 2019 at Pine Ridge.
Donovan Louis Yankton, Sr., was born on March 7, 1966 in Pine Ridge to Vernona Kills Right and Albert Yankton. Donovan made his journey to the Spirit World on February 28 at the I.H.S. Hospital in Pine Ridge.
Donovan is survived by his mother, Vernona Kills Right, Porcupine; children, Donna (Jonathan Sandoval) Yankton, Denver, Colo., Roxanne (Tyler) Yankton, and Donovan Yankton, Jr., both of Porcupine; brothers, Leonard Yankton and Chris Kills Right, both of Porcupine; sisters, Missy (B.J.) Feather Earring, Porcupine, and Danielle Kills Right, Rapid City; grandchildren, Anthony, Aliana and Jonathan Sandoval, Jr., all of Denver, Colo.; aunts, Alberta Kills Right, Rapid City, Mary Kills Right, Porcupine, and Vina Yankton, Kyle; uncle, Lavern Yankton, Manderson; nieces, Calypso Feather Earring, Porcupine, and Nevaeh Torres, New York, NY; and nephew, Austin Watkins, III, Kyle.
Donovan was preceded in death by his father, Albert “Bowie” Yankton; paternal grandparents, Albert Yankton, Sr., and Josephine (LaDeaux) Yankton; maternal grandparents, Joseph Kills Right and Anna (Lone Hill) Kills Right; aunts, Winona “Phoebe” Running Hawk, Vina (Yankton) Colhoff and Gertrude “Gertie” (Yankton) Swain; and uncles, Albert Kills Right, Sr., Donroy Kills Right, Sr., and Lloyd Yankton, Sr.
Two night wake services started at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, March 9 at the Porcupine School Gym in Porcupine with services to be held each evening at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 11, at the Porcupine School Gym in Porcupine.
Traditional Lakota services were officiated by Mr. Greg Ross and Mr. Milton “Jim” Mesteth.
Burial services were held at the Lakota Mennonite Cemetery in Porcupine immediately following the funeral services.
