Lowell Vernon Erichsen, 83, died April 2, 2019, at the Good Samaritan Luther Manor in Sioux Falls.
A celebration of life service was held Saturday, April 6, at Heritage Funeral Home, with burial at Hills of Rest Memorial Park in Sioux Falls.
Lowell Vernon Erichsen was born February 27, 1936, at rural Altamont, S.D., during a snow storm. He attended Clover Hill School District #72, rural Altamont, and graduated from Watertown High School in 1953. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agricultural Engineering from South Dakota State College in 1958. He served in the U.S. Army from February 1958 to December 1960 as an Artillery Specialist. Lowell married Mildred Joan Cummings on January 23, 1964, in Martin. Two sons and a daughter were born to this union. Lowell worked for the Federal Government Bureau of Indian Affairs for 30 years. They lived in Martin for a short time and later lived in Crow Agency and Flathead, both in Montana; Blackfoot, Idaho; and Aberdeen, before retiring in Sioux Falls. Lowell enjoyed sports, traveling and reading.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Joan (Cummings) Erichsen; two sons, Vernon (Lynette) Erichsen, Hartford, S.D., and Kevin (Phuong Thi Nguyen) Erichsen, Lewisville, Texas; daughter, Dianne (David) Glover, Sioux Falls; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; brother, Wayne Erichsen, Tempe, Ariz.; six sisters, Joyce Ulven, Vivian (Arthur Keith) Shaver, Bernice (Dean) Kjelden, LaVonne Kjelden, Linda Berkland and June McKillip, all of Sioux Falls.
Lowell was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Dennis Kjelden, and Harold Berkland.
