Sherry Jane Peck was born on December 18, 1943, in Torrington, Wyo., to Raymond Smith Sr. and Sarah (Stover-Swallow) Smith.
Sherry, 75, of Martin, S.D., made her journey to the Spirit World on April 8, 2019, at the Custer Regional Hospital in Custer. Sherry was a great woman who loved to help the people in any way she could.
She served on the City Council in Martin for two terms. She was a domestic violence advocate for the Bennett County State Attorney’s Office. She was also the President of the Morning Star Family Ministries Inc., from the day the company started until she passed away. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Sherry is survived by her children, Barry, Randy and Aaron Bettelyoun, all of Martin, and Randy Peck, of Colorado; sisters, Debbie Flores, Gering, Neb., and Denise Salway, Spearfish; nieces, Shirley and Penny Salway, both of Spearfish, Gwen Smith, Fremont, Neb., and Stephanie Smith, Gurnee, Ill.; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and friends.
Sherry was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond Smith Sr., and Sarah (Stover-Swallow) Smith; first husband and father of her children, Grover Dean Bettelyoun; husband, Neil Peck; sons, Jeff Bettelyoun and Rick Peck; brothers, Jerry Smith and Raymond Smith Jr.; and aunts, Mabel Hullett and Mamie Neibaur.
A one night wake service started Monday, April 15, at St. Katherine’s Episcopal Church in Martin.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 16, at the New American Legion in Martin, with Father Ed Hunt officiating.
Burial was at the Martin Community Cemetery, Martin.
