Elsie E. Rothe, 97, of Kearney, Neb., passed away peacefully, Monday, July 22, 2019, at her home. Elsie was born April 20, 1922, in Gering, Neb., to Henry and Elizabeth (Kiel) Weinmaster. She was adopted in 1924 to Gottfried and Elizabeth Greenwald, and grew up on their farm northeast of Batesland, S.D. She married Leo Rothe on April 28, 1946, in Fort Morgan, Colo. To this union two daughters were born, Michelle and Susan. She continued farming northeast of Batesland until her retirement in 2002 when she moved to Kearney and resided there until her death.
Her greatest joy in life was spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, crafting, cooking (was famous for her German pancakes), playing cards, dancing and decorating her home. She was a Mary Kay consultant for years and loved what was the latest in fashion.
Left to cherish her are her two daughters, Michelle Rothe and Susan Olson, both of Kearney; four generations of nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Hank and Dave Weinmaster; half-brothers, Melvin, Elmer, and Harold Weinmaster; sisters, Hilda (Weinmaster) Betzold, Clara (Greenwald) Saub; and a half-sister, Helen (Weinmaster) Coppedge.
She requested cremation and no service. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, July 26, 2019, at Horner Lieske McBride and Kuhl Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated later.
