Joy Belle Weimer, 87, of Martin, S.D., passed away April 9, 2019, at the Bennett County Nursing Home. Joy was born May 6, 1931, to Reuben and Verna Holeman, in Nebraska. She was the second oldest of the five Holeman children.
As a young girl, Joy moved to rural Martin in 1941, and attended country schools.
Joy married Raymond Weimer on September 12, 1948, at the Lutheran Church in Batesland. The couple had three children, Kathi, Tim, and Connie. Joy earned her GED later in life, which allowed her to study with Connie in sixth grade math.
Joy worked beside her husband as a ranch wife, and in the early 1970’s began working at the Bennett County Nursing Home. She spent thirty years working as a CNA, in central supply, housekeeping, in the kitchen, and as a restorative aide.
Joy also taught Sunday School at the Lutheran Church in Batesland for 25 years. She loved classical and gospel music, quilting, was an avid book reader, and loved her hobby of being a rock hound.
Joy and Raymond moved to Merriman, Neb., in December of 2004. Raymond passed away on March 18, 2009.
Joy is survived by her sisters, Kay Nicholson, Dickinson, N.D., and Ada Weimer, Sun City, Ariz.; daughters, Kathi Roten, Laramie, Wyo., and Connie (Bryce) McNare, Merriman, and grandsons, Luke Weimer, St. Paul, Minn., and Daniel McNare, Norfolk, Neb.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; brothers, Dorian and Gary Holeman; and son, Tim Weimer.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 17, at 10:00 a.m., at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Martin, with Pastor Josh Hillmann officiating. Burial will be at the Merriman Community Cemetery, in Merriman.
