Benamin Joseph Janis III Obit

Benjamin Joseph Janis III was born on June 18, 1976, in Pine Ridge, S.D., to Benjamin Janis II and Colleen (White Butterfly) Little Moon. Benjamin, 43, of Rapid City, made his journey to the Spirit World on December 15, 2019, at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls. He was a veteran of the United States Army.

Benjamin is survived by his spouse, Yolanda Janis of Rapid City, SD; daughter, Nicole Janis of Rapid City, SD; sons, William Janis of Rapid City, SD; step-son, Jordan Seda of Rapid City, SD; mother, Colleen Little Moon of Rockyford, SD; brothers, Rocky Thunder Hawk and Arlen Janis both of Rapid City, SD, Preston Thunder Hawk, Lucas Thunder Hawk, and Paul John “PJ” Little Moon all of Rockyford, SD; sisters, Lorelei Janis of Thunder Valley, SD, Rochelle Thunder Hawk of Rockyford, SD, and Sheila Little Moon of Rapid City, SD; grandchildren, Aubrey Hayes, Maria Hayes, Kylie Hayes, and Violet Janis; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, & nephews.

Benjamin was preceded in death by his father, Benjamin William Janis; grandparents, Benjamin, Sr. and Isabella Janis, Roy White Butterfly, and Pauline (Young Bull Bear) White Butterfly; cousin, Teddy Lou Janis; and uncles, Patrick Hayes, Virgil White Butterfly, Orville White Butterfly, Mike Fire Thunder, and Martin Fire Thunder.

Wake Services: Two night wake services starting at 2:00 PM, Thursday, December 26, 2019 at the Wounded Knee District School in Manderson, SD with evening services starting at 7:00 PM.

Funeral Services: 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 28, 2019 at the Wounded Knee District School in Manderson, SD

Officiating: Father Ed Hunt and The Rev. Harold Eagle Bull

Traditional Lakota Services: Mr. Rick Two Dogs

Burial Services: Janis Family Cemetery, Manderson, SD
