Ruth Jennie Brown-Wright was born April 3, 1961, in Pine Ridge, S.D., to Dora Brown and Rudolph Bartlette. Ruth, 58, of Wanblee, made her journey to the Spirit World on Sunday, January 19, 2020, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City.
Ruth grew up in Wanblee, SD and graduated from Crazy Horse School. She went on to earn her AA degree in Elementary Ed and Accounting and a Bachelor’s degree in Business and Accounting. Ruth proudly served as a District Rep for the Eagle Nest District and OST council and was the first female to serve and was the youngest council representative. Ruth sat on many committees and proudly served her people for 32 years. Ruth loved rodeos, sobriety dances, line dancing, sewing, and Bigfoot, Sobriety and Crazy Horse rides.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Llwellyn Wright of Mission, SD; mother, Dora Brown of Wanblee, SD; brothers, Stanley (Sandra) Young, Sr., Edward Bartlette, William (Courtney) Lamont, Linda (Henry) Yellow Elk of Wanblee, SD; John Bartlette of Pierre, SD, and Clint and Steven Bartlette of Eagle Butte, SD; sister, Lorencia Bartlette of Rapid City, SD, Leonard Bartlette of Sioux Falls, SD, and Wade Bartlette of Rapid City, SD; uncle, Marvin Bartlette of Rapid City, SD, and Lester Bartlette of Aberdeen, SD; nieces and nephews, Jennifer (Darrell ) Richards and Family of Kyle, SD, Stanley (Jeannie) Young ,Jr. and Family, Algin (Monica) Young and Family, Becky (Howard) Pretends Eagle and Family, Taneal Randall and Family all of Wanblee, SD, Torey (Leo) Randall and Family, Kassy Randall and Family, and Tara Randall all of Wall, SD, Rueben Randall and Rachal (Adrian) Wooden Knife and Family both of White River SD; 27 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter.
Ruth is preceded in death by her father, Rudolph Bartlette; grandmother, Jenny Richards; sisters, Valerie Rose Wooden Knife and Lori Bartlette Bowen; nephew, Tyler Trask Randall; and Aunt Rachel Richards Long Pumpkin,

Funeral services for Ruth Jennie Brown-Wright will be at 12:00 PM, Monday, January 27, 2020 at the Crazy Horse School in Wanblee, SD with Pastor Chris Grillo and Lay Reader Rita Brown officiating and Traditional Lakota Services provided by Mr. Richard Moves Camp. There will be a two-night wake service starting at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at the Crazy Horse School in Wanblee, SD with evening services starting each night at 7:00 PM. Burial services will be at the Gethsemane Episcopal Cemetery in Wanblee, SD following the funeral services on Monday, January 27, 2020 under the direction of the Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD.
We welcome all horseback riders for when we bring her home and take her to her final resting place. Long Live Cowgirls!
