Michael Dean Standing Soldier

Michael Dean Standing Soldier “Akicita Najin,” 61, of Sioux Falls, S.D., passed away September 1, 2020 in Sioux Falls.

Michael Dean Standing Soldier was born on January 5, 1959, in Pine Ridge, to Robert Standing Soldier and Delores (Little Killer) Standing Soldier. Michael made his journey to the Spirit World on September 1, 2020, at his home in Sioux Falls. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army.

Michael is survived by his wife, Clara Jacob; children, Mica Standing Soldier, Iris Jacob and Mato Standing Soldier; siblings, Norman, Mary, Gloria, Alice and Richard Standing Soldier, Juanita Rodriguez, Nostalgia Wright and Phyllis Myers; hunka siblings, Bud Walling, Stanley No Heart, Hank Means and Theresa Henry; grandchildren, Ifetayo Bolds Jacob, Ozioma Bolds Jacob and Chetachi Bolds Jacob; and aunts, Geraldine Shangreaux, Marie Shangreaux, Leona Richards, and Barbara Ann Smith.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Delores Standing Soldier; and brothers, Tim and Arnold Standing Soldier.

Visitation services were held from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., Saturday, September 5, at the Sioux Funeral Home in Pine Ridge.

Memorial services will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 12, at the Cherry Rock Park in Sioux Falls, with Mr. Rick Two Dogs performing the traditional Lakota services.

Burial services were held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 5, at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Hisle.

The Family requests everyone in attendance to please wear a mask and practice social distancing.
