Lonnie Thomas Richards “Tokia Mani,” 51, of Pine Ridge, S.D., passed away September 3, 2020, in Rapid City.
Lonnie Thomas Richards “Tokia Mani” was born on September 22, 1968, in Pine Ridge to Lester Jack and Sandra (Richards) Blue Bird. Lonnie made his journey to the Spirit World on September 3, at the Monument Health Hospital in Rapid City. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army.
Lonnie is survived by his spouse, Betty Watters-Richards; children, Ian Richards, Luke Richards, and Leah Richards; nine grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; sisters, Kimimila Jack, Jeanette Richard-Black Elk, Kathleen (James) Peterson, Melinda (Darrell) Spotted Elk, Theresa Blue Bird, and Carla (Tom) Cheyenne; brothers, Ryan Blue Bird, Howard Blue Bird, Christopher Blue Bird, Tommy Blue Bird, Bryan Blue Bird, Jesse Jack, Lester Jack, Jr., Gene Jack, Charles Jack, Ben Jack, Lavern Jack, Lyle Jack, Sr., and Yamni Jack.
Lonnie was preceded in death by his mother, Sandra (Bryan) Blue Bird; grandparents, Thomas and Emma (Two Crow) Richards and Leonard and Alice (Holy Elk) Jack; grandson, Alexander Richards; brothers, Ronnie Richards and Belle Blue Bird; sisters, Brenda Blue Bird, Crystal Little Moon, and Tesse Jack; and several aunts and uncles.
A one night wake service was held starting at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, September 13, at the Pine Ridge Pow Wow Grounds in Pine Ridge.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 14, at the Pine Ridge Pow Wow Grounds in Pine Ridge, with Mr. Charles McGaa officiating and Mr. Juan Mesteth performing the traditional Lakota services.
Burial services were held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, September 14, at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis.
