Joseph “Joe Joe” Brown Thunder, Sr., 87, of Kyle, S.D. passed away September 23, 2020, in Martin.
Joseph Brown Thunder, Sr. was born on February 19, 1933, in Kyle to Matthew Eagle Heart and Mabel (Thunder Bull) Eagle Heart and was adopted and raised by John Johnson Brown Thunder and Julia (American Horse) Brown Thunder. Joseph made his journey to the Spirit World on September 23, 2020, at the Bennett County Nursing Home in Martin.
Joseph is survived by his spouse, Rosalie (Aragon) Brown Thunder, Kyle; children, Joseph “Joey” Brown Thunder, Jr., Calif., John Brown Thunder, Ariz., Ted Brown Thunder, Wis., Tamara King, Rapid City, Lance King, Minn., Denise Red Owl, Kyle, Charlie King, Jr., Kyle, and many grandchildren.
Joseph was preceded in death by his adopted parents, John Johnson Brown Thunder and Julia (American Horse) Brown Thunder; biological parents, Matthew Eagle Heart and Mabel (Thunder Bull) Eagle Heart; sisters, Lucy (Broken Rope) Brown Thunder, Cecelia (LaPointe) Brown Thunder, Delia Brown Thunder-Big Boy, and Dorine Brown Thunder-Hernandez; brothers, Leroy Brown Thunder and Emerson Poor Bear; sister, Victoria (Eagle Heart) Iron Cloud; one twin brother in infancy; half sister, Louise White; brother, William “Wazi” Eagle Heart; nephew/adopted son, Matthew “Matchie” King; and granddaughter, Veronica Rattler.
Funeral services were held starting at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 26, at the Kyle Pow-wow Grounds in Kyle, with Lay Minister Anthony Wounded Head officiating.
Burial services were held at the Mediator Episcopal Cemetery in Kyle.
