Jerry Dean Grass
Jerry Dean Grass was born on June 8, 1942 in Kadoka, S.D. to Floyd “Pete” and Faye (Good) Grass. Jerry made his journey to the Spirit World on March 18, 2021 at the Bennett County Hospital in Martin.
Jerry grew up in the Blackpipe area northeast of Bennett County. He attended grade school at the Blackpipe School where he would have to ride horse 1 ½ miles to get there. After grade school, Jerry attended school at Bennett County High. On June 8, 1963, Jerry married Charleen Helen “Sis” Livermont, and to this union five children were born, Alfred, Karmell, Jeri Ann, Michael, and Tammy.
Jerry and his family ranched at the family homestead, which was established in 1915 near Norris, until his retirement in 1999 when he moved to Martin and resided one mile north of town on the Hisle Road. Jerry was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He loved ranching, rodeoing, fishing, hunting, playing darts, and bossing around Colin Peterson at the Ireland Ranch.
Jerry loved to help at the ranch whenever he could. He enjoyed driving equipment during haying where he would put up his hay in town and then come out to the ranch and help there. He helped with pretty much everything at the ranch, even plowing snow in the winter. Jerry was just a cowboy; he grew up and lived that kind of life. Jerry would take his children across the country for numerous rodeo events and enjoyed every second of it. He leaves behind countless memories that his family will remember forever.
Jerry is survived by his children, Alfred (Cindy Babby) Grass, Martin, Karmell (Brad Cvach) Sharp, Norris, Jeri Ann Ervin, Rapid City, Michael Todd Grass, Sr., Norris, and Tammy (Kevin) Reeves, Box Elder; brother, Marvin Lee Grass, Martin; grandchildren, Keeva Grass, Kindra (Timothy) Holt, Kolton Grass, Lacy (Albert) Cortes, Brandy (Javier) Gracia, Bo (Charley) Sharp, Madison Ervin, Michael Grass, Jr., Olivia (Cole) Iyotte, Garrett Grass, Stoney Wooden Knife, and Cinch Reeves; great-grandchildren, Kenton Grass, Donita Holt, Ronnie Holt, Allen Patrick Holt, Alexis Babby, Brittney Babby, Brandon Babby, Isabella Cortes, Jacey Garcia, Xavier Garcia, Julie Ana Garcia, Kaylee Garcia, Aubrey Garcia, Kendall Sharp, Colton Iyotte, Cole Iyotte, Carter Iyotte and MaKenna Marie Iyotte, and LaShae Isabella Lessert; niece, Jackie Grass; and nephew, Steve Grass.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd Alfred “Pete” Grass and Faye Almira (Good) Grass; spouse, Charleen Grass; sister, Joyce Ann Grass; nephews, Kevin Grass and Kelly Grass; niece, Lori Stoddard; sister-in-law, Linda “Wink” Stoddard; brothers-in-law, Paul Briggs, LeRoy “Boots” Livermont, Wayne Whidby, and Alex “Bod” Livermont.
Pallbearers will be Rich Tozcek, Bob Tozcek, Jan Gregg, Collin Peterson, Kenny Donovan, Gordon Good, Leon Little Killer, Tim Palmer, and Bo Sharp.
Honorary pallbearers will be All Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren, Marvin Grass, Steve Grass, Duane and Tracey Lamb and Family, Dart Vaders Dart Team, All Rodeo Family, and All Friends and Relatives.
A one night wake service will be held starting at 2:00 p.m., MT, Wednesday, March 24 at the Norris Community Hall in Norris, with evening services starting at 7:00 p.m., MT.
Visitation services will be held from 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m., MT, Thursday, March 25, at the Norris Community Hall in Norris.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., MT, Thursday, March 25 at the Norris Community Hall in Norris, with Pastor Gus Craven officiating.
Burial services will be held at the Grass Family Homestead in Norris.
